SHEC Safety Officer

Our Client - An Open cast Mine in the Northern Cape
Job Description -
  • Conduct awareness training on the Company Way and System of Safe Work and other
  • SHEC initiatives
  • Implement the Company Risk Management framework (Baseline Risk Assessment
  • developed and signed off, Significant Risks identified, Controls implemented and
  • audited)
  • Facilitate Risk Assessments
  • Implement a program to conduct Issue Based Risk Assessments and updating or
  • development of Standard Operating Procedures for issues as identified from the
  • Baseline Assessment
  • Ensure that Training material are updated with current Code of Practises, SOP's
  • and managerial instructions and conduct scheduled audits to assess compliance
  • thereto.
  • Inspect all working places and machinery on a scheduled basis
  • Record results of Inspections and other monitoring activities for development of
  • risk profiles per working places
  • Monitor and Audit Contractor and site wide processes/sections/departments
  • compliance to Company Mine SHEC System requirements (OHSAS 18001, ISO
  • 14001, ISO 9001)
  • Maintain the ISOMETRIX System
  • Manage Fire Fighting Equipment, including Fire Extinguisher Service Provider and
  • Emergency Preparedness Procedure
     
Candidate Requirements -
  • Opencast mining operations experience
  • A relevant mine health and safety qualification (e.g. COMSOC, SAMTRAC)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Safety Officer role in a mining environment.
  • Demonstrable successes as a Safety Practitioner
  • Demonstrable knowledge of all the legislation governing the health, safety and
  • environment in the mining business environment (e.g. Mine Health & Safety Act,
  • NEMA, NEMWA etc.).
  • Demonstrable understanding of all statutory requirements in relation to safety in
  • the mining industry.
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of labour legislation (e.g. BCEA, OSHA &LRA).
