Regional Freight Manager - Africa
The role
- Product Area (PA) Global Tools and Services require a Regional Freight Manager within the Logistics Services organization. This role, which collaborates intensively with Regional Freight Managers in other regions and Global Program Management, will drive transportation service reliability and improvements, cost effectiveness, delivery quality and compliance, amongst others, in Africa. The role is responsible for both Inbound and Outbound transportation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement transportation strategies for Africa.
- Design, implement or enhance freight infrastructure and solutions.
- Manage freight cost effectiveness through exploitation of synergies, negotiations, invoice control and alignment with internal and external disciplines for the best total cost solution.
- Drive business excellence through vendor performance management, improvement initiatives and benchmarking, with service reliability, cost effectiveness and delivery quality as deliverables.
- Develop, lead, or collaborate on projects to deliver improvements to Freight Management in Africa.
- Own the occasional Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposals (RFP) or Request for Quotations (RFQ) for the region.
- Manage inbound and outbound freight processes and services within Africa
- Drive continuous improvement of service, cost and quality of freight operations.
- Accountable for transportation cost and operational key performance indicators including On Time Delivery (OTD), Proof of Delivery (POD) compliance, Delivery Quality (DQ).
- Actively monitor and address issues related to Key Performance Indicators with service providers.
- Provide transportation expertise to internal and external stakeholders
- Manage service provider on-boarding processes (process, systems, service etc.) when a new provider is introduced.
Your profile
- A degree in Logistics / Supply Chain, and a minimum of 10 years' experience in the fields of transportation management, supply chain management or logistics.
- Vendor management experience and business negotiation experience
- Hands-on experience in operational logistics in all facets
- Demonstrated use of analytics to support business decision making
- Ability to lead, motivate and champion significant change initiatives
- Proven record of building and managing relationships across business functions and cultures
- Project management experience
- Proactive and respectful of agreed deadlines
- Financial/Business Knowledge
- People management
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written
