Purpose of the Position
Under the overall direction of the Chief Communications Corporate Fundraising (Corporate Relations) and guided by the Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Strategic Plan and the Strategic Framework: Private Fundraising by Country Offices, the incumbent is responsible for development, planning, and guidance of private sector fundraising and partnership strategies and activities within the UNICEF South Africa Country Office (SACO) and sub-region sub-region i.e. Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland (BNLSS).
Key Expected Results
- Leads, with the relevant Country Office staff, the development of fundraising and partnership priorities, goals and strategies (especially during the Country Programme planning process and during the annual PFP planning process), in close consultation with the Chief Communications and Partnerships and in collaboration with other PFP staff as appropriate. Develops close relationships and networks in assigned cluster through personal visits and contacts to arrive at formulation of specific strategic approaches.
- Initiates, guides and provides technical advice to SACO for their fundraising and partnership work planning, and development of programmes in line with PFP's global strategy. Analyses and monitors results of fundraising and partnership programmes as carried out by SACO through collection and analysis of data to evaluate their effectiveness and to identify opportunities for development.
- Plans, manages and evaluates PFP investments in strategic income generating areas for SACO and BNLSS and coordinates the administration of the relevant PFP investment funds.
- Acts as the executive focal point for fundraising for the BNLSS sub region, advising the Chief Communications, PFP staff and others on any fundraising related matter concerning BNLSS markets.
- Identifies individual SACO needs and opportunities for specialized support, market research and development of new fundraising offers, provides opportunities for sharing of experience and learning between Country Offices and works with PFP private sector fundraising colleagues in all these aspects.
- Acts as champion within SACO Communication team for specialized fundraising areas or techniques, such as legacies, direct mail, pledge giving or community fundraising, in order to consolidate and drive organizational learning and development in that specific field.
- Contributes to preparations and content of meeting such as the Global Private Sector Forum, specialist fundraising workshops and others. Runs sessions in these meetings as required.
- Prepares and monitors financial information for SACO budget preparation and updates.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
- Advanced university degree in Economics, Marketing, Communication, Commercial Management, Business Administration or related fields.*
- Training in fundraising, brand management and/or direct marketing required. NGO Management an asset.
- Eight years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in all areas of fundraising, including a minimum of two years in international fundraising with special emphasis on strategic planning, direct marketing, and corporate fundraising.
- Experience in working with several countries at the same time would be relevant.
- Fluency in English and another UN language. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station would be an asset.
- A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
