Chemonics seeks climate change technical specialists to lead and manage an anticipated USAID-funded South Africa Low Emissions Development Project. The project aims to support the Government of South Africa in its efforts to expand low emissions development or “green growth” in South Africa. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
We are looking for technical experts in the following areas:
- Climate change, environmental management, Low Emissions Development project development, green house gas inventory development, emissions monitoring
- Disaster management, vulnerability assessment
- Development finance, public-private partnership, and green growth project development
- Municipal governance, urban planning, and public sector capacity building, and civil society adaptive management
- Renewable energy, energy efficiency and demand management, public transport, or waste management
- Gender and youth inclusion
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in environmental science, business, urban planning, public policy or related fields
- Proven experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation activities, with project management experience preferred
- Experience working collaboratively with government agencies, host-country governments and counterparts, and international donor agencies; USAID experience preferred
- Experience in climate change policies and programs supporting regional capacity building under a U.S. government contract preferred
- Knowledge of climate change policies, laws, development and management issues and Low Emission Development Strategy processes
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills
- Experience in South Africa preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- English fluency required
