Background:
The Centre for Teaching and Learning’s vision is to support creation of excellence in teaching and learning; to produce high quality graduates and to contribute towards the sustainable development of the University. The Centre therefore invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position advertised below. The applicants must be multi-skilled and experienced academics with an education background. Minimum qualifications and requirements are listed under each position.
Post No. 8002: Lecturer: Students’ Academic Learning Support
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- a Masters degree in teacher education and specialization in educational psychology and counselling;
- background in educational assessment;
- experience in working with students in institutions of higher education;
- experience in undertaking research related to learning;
- experience in policy formulation;
Having held senior positions in institutions of higher learning and working directly with students will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Lecturer will be responsible for -
- providing professional support to learners;
- liaising with the faculty-based Tutors and library in helping learners with learning skills;
- organizing workshops for learners’ fundamental skills needed to succeed at university including managing study loads, writing assignments, preparing for examinations, writing skills, making sense of lectures, working independently or in groups of various sizes;
- training students in the use of course feedback instruments;
- organizing training programme with units dealing with helping learners improve learning skills;
- organizing materials/resources that can be used to assist learners with their learning challenges;
- developing an annual student retention strategic plan and reviewing it periodically;
- formulating and periodically reviewing policy on student retention.

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable for Locals and Contract for Non – Locals.
