Reporting directly to the Mine Manager, the Mine Engineer will be responsible for managing the Engineering Department and will take legal responsibility for: men and machinery; optimum machine and underground equipment performance; engineering availability as well as achieving production targets.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Legal appointee for the Mine
- Develop, implement and monitor adherence to engineering standards and legislative requirements, taking corrective action where necessary
- Allocate resources to project teams in consultation with relevant Section Heads
- Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of engineering processes and systems
- Drive and implement action plans to achieve the Mine strategy and business plans
- Set and prepare financial budget for the section
- Keep abreast of market trends and new technology
- Ensure the effective management and control of human resources for optimal utilization
- Provide effective engineering analysis services and perform project management activities
Desired Skills and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- B Degree or National Higher Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Government Certificate of Competency (Mines and Works)
- Operational experience in an underground mine with TMM and RBE
- Experience on shafts, winders and ore processing plants
- Operational experience in a leadership role
- Valid drivers’ license (Code EB/08)
- Sound computer skills
