The International HIV/AIDS Alliance works with communities through local, national and global action on HIV, health and human rights. Our vision is a world without AIDS. Since 1994, the Alliance and its partners have supported over 3,000 projects, in over 40 countries, reaching millions of people.
In collaboration with the South African Department of Social Development (DoSD), USAID is supporting a capacity building project that has developed and delivers a national “Orphans and Vulnerable Children Caregiver Support and Child Protection” skills development programme in the nine provinces of South Africa. The Thogomelo Project, (“Thogomelo” means “to care” in Venda) offers capacity development to community based, faith based and other organizations that provide support to vulnerable children. Primary beneficiaries are community caregivers and the supervisors or coordinators of community caregivers affiliated to these organizations. Working in close collaboration with the South African training standards generating body, the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA), the project aims to facilitate entry-level jobs and a career path for caregivers through the implementation of accredited skills development programmes (SDPs). The project is implemented by PATH in partnership with its USAID AIDSTAR Consortium partners, Health and Development Africa and The International HIV and AIDS Alliance.
The Alliance is now seeking a National Capacity Development Coordinator to co-ordinate the implementation, delivery and quality assurance of the Thogomelo project’s national and provincial community caregiver capacity development plan. This position will provide effective leadership and coaching to the Provincial Training service providers, and s/he will support Provincial DSD to develop and cost annual provincial implementation plans. The successful candidate will support the project’s exit and sustainability strategy, oversee the technical assistants supporting the capacity development and sustainability strategy, whilst working closely and collaboratively with the wider Thogomelo team.
The successful candidate must possess knowledge of the technical assistance environment particularly in relation to HIV/AIDS and/or health and social programming for civil society organisations. They must also have knowledge of child protection and psychosocial support for community caregivers and vulnerable children. Experience in working with South African Government or knowledge of working with provincial government, especially Department of Social Development is also an essential criteria.
