Job purpose and key deliverablesJob Purpose
To manage the control of and make decisions about the quality of manufactured products and raw materials in the Heidelberg Factory. In addition to this, the job holder must manage the work performance and development of subordinates. Investigate; recommend and initiate corrective action regarding product and material related problems to ensure BAT specifications and standards are met. Effectively drive and support quality KPI continuous improvement actions.

Key Deliverables 

  • Manage, control and make decisions about products and raw materials that deviate from the prescribed quality standards, report these deviations to the appropriate Cell Manager and Manufacturing team and take the necessary action to ensure that the defective product does not reach the end market. 
  • Attend Production and Planning meetings in order to share QA info and support Manufacturing. 
  • Responsible for conducting proper investigations, gathering of facts, obtain management input and make recommendations in respect of problems having a direct impact on production i.e problems with beetle infestation, contamination etc. 
  • Control, verify and confirm product and raw material specification changes. 
  • Managed and control all specification changes in the factory as in rex spec. 
  • Arrange and provide assistance for the execution of tests, experiments and special projects and regulate the results. 
  • Manage and execute relevant administrative activities in the department (e.g. attendance register, managing, leave forms, disciplinary action, performance appraisals, updating of personnel files, etc.) 
  • Manage and control the Visual Data Entry System (VIDES) with regards to the generation of visual product quality inspection reports, general system maintenance and ensuring that subordinates are competent in the use of the system. 
  • Identify and initiate continuous training and development of subordinates and take an interest in their well-being to ensure a competent and motivated workforce. 
  • Co-ordinate the weekly work site scheduling of Quality Assurance personnel and planned overtime. 
  • New Product Introductions – Control specifications as obtained from NPI & Spec office to ensure our products conform to set BAT specifications and standards. 
  • Manage and drive new product launch check list. 
  • Approve machine workability to ensure BAT quality standards are met. 
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the quality assurance system to ensure that the Quality Assurance Department contributes to the company vision 
  • Comply with all company EH&S policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. 
  • Ensuring necessarily tools for Inspectors to execute their work. Report and flag quality issues.
Essential requirementsKnowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Grade 12 with Physical Science and Mathematics. 
  • Production / Quality Diploma or equivalent qualification 
  • Minimum three years Quality Assurance or manufacturing experience in the Tobacco Manufacturing Industry 
  • Knowledge of production processes 
  • Knowledge of QA protocols
