POSITION : NATIONAL DIRECTOR
LOCATION: National Office - Lesotho
REPORTS TO: Regional Vice President – Southern Africa
Provide Supervision to: Senior Management Team (SMT), comprising of sector heads, such as Operations, HEA, Quality Ministry, HR, Finance & Christian Commitments, Chain Supply etc.
Effective: 1 August 2014
Duration: 2 years
Purpose of the position:
Responsible for providing strategic, operational and cultural leadership to a WV program in a particular country context.
Generally, the focus is on a combination or all of the following programming areas: program development, disaster management, advocacy, operations, ensuring mainstreaming of quality assurance activities, representation, board development, risk management, financial management, HR management, Christian commitments, stakeholder relationship management and national/international resource development & acquisition.

Major Responsibilities:
Key Outputs/Responsibilities
1. Implement strategy drive operational performance to ensure program quality, accountability and good governance.
2. Ensure adequate resources are acquired and managed to meet and enable quality program implementation.
3. Implement appropriate people management strategies and promote a culture of performance, learning and diversity.
4. Develop and implement appropriate advocacy strategies to raise awareness of- and advocate for change in- key issues within the specific context.
5. Build strategic relationships at local, regional and international level with donors, government, local communities, religious leaders, with a view to enhancing and facilitating program implementation in specific context.
6. Oversee relief efforts, as and when they arise and work in partnership with response teams. Build in-country relief response capacity to ensure adequate disaster management and response.
7. Provide spiritual leadership to WV staff.
Other Competencies/Attributes:
Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
-Masters degree in Social Sciences and or Community development
-In-depth knowledge of principles of transformational development & relief
-In-depth knowledge of and understanding of importance of advocacy in tackling the underlying causes of poverty
-In non-Christian/multi-faith contexts- knowledge & understanding of world religions
-Good broad knowledge & understanding of LEAP, TD indicators & Humanitarian Accountability Standards
-Significant management experience (general/operational) where there is evidence of both accountability & know-how
-At last 5 years’ experience in holistic development work in a developing country OR in a fundraising/Support Office senior management leadership role OR at least 5 years’ experience heading up emergency relief operations
-Grant acquisition & donor engagement knowledge & experience
-Good knowledge of financial management & accounting principles
-Experience in being accountable for line management of diverse teams
-HR/OD knowledge and experience
-Negotiation skills to secure budgets- preferred
-World Vision experience- preferred
Working Environment / Conditions:
Work environment: Office-based with planned travel to the field
Travel: 15% Domestic/international travel is required.
On call: 30%
