RESPONSIBLE TO : CITY ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the City Engineer, assists in the development and maintenance of the engineering activities of the Council.

Main Duties

• Assigns work to the Works Engineer, Design Engineer, Workshop Manager and Principal Technical Officers.
• Carries out research work as required to produce and interpret statistical data.
• Participate in the department’s discussions of past performance, future planning programmes or goals and follow-ups for corrections.
Responsibilities

• Supervises day-to-day duties of Design Engineer, Works Engineer and Technical staff.
• Attends to meetings with Consultants and Contractors.
• Oversees economical use of department expenses, funds and supplies by self and subordinates.
• Ensures care and Proper use of equipment.
• Endorsement of Reports and Forms related to the department activities.
• Looks after the welfare of subordinate staff and their complaints.
• Handles work to be signed or endorsed by the City Engineer.
• Looks after safety of subordinates and sees that safe equipment is used at workplace.
• Deals with the public requesting services of the department.
Qualifications and Experience

University Degree in Civil Engineering or Highway Engineering with a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience in civil works with exposure to municipal works. Experience of road layerworks or geometry and other related materials will be an added advantage.

Knowledge and Skills

Sound knowledge of computer applications, good organizational and communication skills..Basic budgeting and financial skills, Council policies and financial regulations.
